MeasurementsIngredients
1.5 qtGreen Tomatoes
1.5 qtCabbage (3/4 large head)
1.5 qtOnions (6 large)
1/2 qtSweet Peppers (2 extra large or 3)
4Hot Peppers
1 TbspSalt
Sugar
Water
Vinegar
2 1/2Whole Mixed Spices

Instructions

  1. Mix vegetables in a pan.
  2. Cover with equal parts sugar, water, and vinegar.
  3. Tie bag with whole mixed spices and cook with mixture.
  4. Remove when done.

Servings

Yields about 4-5 quartz


Recipe Notes (From 1997 Attempt)

  • Vinegar: Used 1 1/2 quarts of vinegar.
  • Water: Did not use quite as much water because the pot was too full. Next time use the right amount.
  • Ingredient Reduction: Reduced ingredients slightly to ensure there was enough liquid to cover the chow chow in the jars.
  • Sweetness: The final product was a little sweet.
