Measurements | Ingredients |

1/3 Cup | Currants |
2 1/2 Cups | Flour |
3/4 Teaspoon | Salt |
1/2 Teaspoon | Baking Soda |
1/4 Teaspoon | Baking Powder |
6 Tablespoons | Butter |
2/3 Cup (approx.) | Sour Milk or Buttermilk |
Milk (for brushing) |
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°.
- Pour boiling water over currants to cover. Set aside.
- Sift dry ingredients together.
- Work butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles oats.
- Drain currants. Add to dough.
- Add enough milk so dough holds together when pressed into a ball.
- On a floured surface pat out 3/4” thick. Cut circles 2” diameter (I used more).
- Brush tops with milk. Bake on ungreased baking tin 10-20 min. or until golden on top.
- Serve immediately, wrapped in a cloth. Serve with whipped Cream, butter & jam
