MeasurementsIngredients
1/3 CupCurrants
2 1/2 CupsFlour
3/4 TeaspoonSalt
1/2 TeaspoonBaking Soda
1/4 TeaspoonBaking Powder
6 TablespoonsButter
2/3 Cup (approx.)Sour Milk or Buttermilk
Milk (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°.
  2. Pour boiling water over currants to cover. Set aside.
  3. Sift dry ingredients together.
  4. Work butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles oats.
  5. Drain currants. Add to dough.
  6. Add enough milk so dough holds together when pressed into a ball.
  7. On a floured surface pat out 3/4” thick. Cut circles 2” diameter (I used more).
  8. Brush tops with milk. Bake on ungreased baking tin 10-20 min. or until golden on top.
  9. Serve immediately, wrapped in a cloth. Serve with whipped Cream, butter & jam
