Instructions
- Sift flour, measure and re-sift with baking powder and salt.
- Cream butter, add sugar and cream till fluffy.
- Beat in egg and vanilla.
- Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Pour into a buttered pan.
- Prepare sauce and pour over batter. (Note: Instructions for preparing the sauce with sugar, boiling water and cherries are not included in this recipe. You will need to find a suitable cherry sauce recipe online or in a cookbook. Typical upside-down cake recipes place the fruit and sauce at the bottom of the pan, and then pour the batter on top.)
- Bake at 350°F for 35 to 45 minutes.
