For the Sauce and Cherries:
Sugar
1/2 CBoiling Water
Cherries

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, measure and re-sift with baking powder and salt.
  2. Cream butter, add sugar and cream till fluffy.
  3. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  4. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  5. Pour into a buttered pan.
  6. Prepare sauce and pour over batter. (Note: Instructions for preparing the sauce with sugar, boiling water and cherries are not included in this recipe. You will need to find a suitable cherry sauce recipe online or in a cookbook. Typical upside-down cake recipes place the fruit and sauce at the bottom of the pan, and then pour the batter on top.)
  7. Bake at 350°F for 35 to 45 minutes.
