One Package (e.g., 6-12 oz) | Semi-Sweet Chocolate (chips or bar) |
Two Tablespoons | Water |
Three | Egg Yolks |
Three | Egg Whites, Stiffly Beaten |
One Cube (or Cup) | Butter, Cut into small pieces |
For Serving (Optional) | Melted Vanilla Ice Cream or Whipped Cream |
Instructions
- Combine semi-sweet chocolate and two tablespoons of water in a heavy pan over low flame.
- Stir occasionally until the chocolate is melted.
- Remove from heat.
- Gradually stir in three egg yolks, one at a time.
- Melt one cube of butter (cut into small pieces) and add it to the chocolate mixture.
- Be sure that the mixture is very smooth.
- Gently fold in three stiffly beaten egg whites.
- Put the mousse into a well-buttered mold or individual glasses.
- Chill until firm.
- Serve with melted vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
