Instructions
- Heat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Blend together cup shortening, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind, and 1 cup sugar.
- Beat in 1 unbeaten egg and 2 tablespoons milk.
- Stir in 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and teaspoon soda.
- Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on a lightly greased baking sheet.
- Grease the bottom of a glass. Dip the glass in sugar and use it to flatten each cookie.
- Sprinkle cookies with nutmeg.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes at 400°F (200°C), or until light golden.
- Cool on a rack.
