Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a baking pan approximately 10x15x inches (or a similar shallow pan like 10x15 or 9x13, adjusting baking time if needed).
  2. Mix and sift together two and cups of all-purpose flour, two and teaspoons of baking powder, and teaspoon of salt. Set aside.
  3. Melt cup of shortening. Add two and cups of brown sugar to the melted shortening.
  4. Stir until well mixed. Allow to cool slightly.
  5. Add three eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  6. Add the dry ingredients (flour mixture) to the wet ingredients and mix.
  7. Stir in one cup of broken nutmeats and one package of chocolate bits.
  8. Pour the batter into the greased pan.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  10. Let it cool well before cutting into squares.
