Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a baking pan approximately 10x15x inches (or a similar shallow pan like 10x15 or 9x13, adjusting baking time if needed).
- Mix and sift together two and cups of all-purpose flour, two and teaspoons of baking powder, and teaspoon of salt. Set aside.
- Melt cup of shortening. Add two and cups of brown sugar to the melted shortening.
- Stir until well mixed. Allow to cool slightly.
- Add three eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Add the dry ingredients (flour mixture) to the wet ingredients and mix.
- Stir in one cup of broken nutmeats and one package of chocolate bits.
- Pour the batter into the greased pan.
- Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Let it cool well before cutting into squares.
