Recipe

MeasurementsIngredients
½ CupButter or Margarine, softened
½ CupPacked Brown Sugar, divided
1 TeaspoonVanilla
⅛ TeaspoonSalt
1Egg, separated
1¼ CupsFlour
1 CupChopped Nuts, fine
½ TeaspoonCinnamon
As neededConfectioners Sugar, optional

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, ¼ Cup sugar, vanilla, & salt until fluffy.
  2. Add egg yolk & beat well.
  3. Stir in flour.
  4. Press (with floured fingertips) dough on bottom & lightly greased 8x8x2 pan.
  5. Bake on lowest rack at 350° for 10 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, beat egg white & ¼ Cup sugar until smooth.
  7. Stir in nuts & cinnamon.
  8. With small spatula spread on baked dough to cover completely.
  9. Bake on middle rack 15 minutes or until top is firm to touch.
  10. Cut in 16 squares or 32 bars while warm.
  11. Cool completely in pan on rack - Sprinkle with confectioners sugar.
