Two Tablespoons | Sugar |
Two Teaspoons | Salt |
Eight to Nine Cups | Whole Wheat Bread Flour (One cup can be white flour) |
Instructions
- Pour warm water into a mixing bowl.
- Sprinkle yeast over the water and add sugar. Wait 5 minutes (for the yeast to activate/proof).
- Add salt and 4 cups of flour (one cup of this can be white flour).
- Beat well with an electric mixer.
- Stir in the rest of the flour, a little at a time, until the dough is stiff enough.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead.
- Divide the dough into two loaves.
- Place in greased bread pans and let rise. (For a closer texture, let the dough rise once before putting it into pans, then shape into loaves, place in pans, and let rise again. The card author notes they skip the first rise.)
- Bake at 350°F for 40-45 minutes.
