Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 325°F. Grease a 10x5x3 inch loaf pan. Line the bottom of the pan with wax paper.
  2. Sift one and a half cups of flour, one and a half teaspoons of baking powder, and teaspoon of salt into a medium bowl.
  3. Add cup of semi-sweet chocolate bits, two cups of coarsely chopped walnuts, one cup of finely snipped dates, and one cup of halved glaced cherries to the flour mixture. Stir until all the fruit and nuts are well coated with flour.
  4. In a large bowl, with an electric mixer at medium speed, beat three eggs well.
  5. Gradually beat in one cup of sugar into the eggs.
  6. Fold the flour, fruit, and nut mixture into the egg and sugar mixture.
  7. Turn the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  8. Bake for one and a half hours, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan on a wire rack.
  10. When well cooled, remove from the pan. Wrap the loaf in foil and store.
