Instructions

  1. Combine the half gallon of red wine with the orange peelings (outer zest only), five or six cloves, a few slices of ginger, a few cardamom seeds, and a few cinnamon sticks.
  2. Soak this mixture overnight.
  3. The next day, bring the wine and spice mixture almost to a boil.
  4. Allow it to steep (let it sit in the hot liquid to infuse flavors).
  5. Add sugar to taste, starting with about cup, and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  6. If desired, “spike” with Vodka to taste.
  7. Serve immediately (warm) with a few raisins and almonds in each glass.
