Instructions

Batter

  1. Beat egg whites, adding a pinch of cream of tartar when the whites are frothy.
  2. When whites form soft peaks, gradually add two and a half cups of powdered sugar (or honey, as the card also notes “Honey” next to powdered sugar).
  3. Beat until stiff.
  4. Beat egg yolks until lemon colored (approximately 5-10 minutes).
  5. Fold yolks and whites together.
  6. Add spices: one half teaspoon cinnamon, one half teaspoon allspice, and one fourth teaspoon cloves. (Card notes “Meas. generously”).

To serve

  1. Use two heaping tablespoons or less of the Tom and Jerry batter per cup.
  2. Use warm/hot milk.
  3. Add one jigger (approximately 1.5 ounces) or so of brandy (the note says, “Jerry we like brandy better than liquor”).
  4. Sprinkle with nutmeg on top of all drinks.
